About

Mission

Bringing together expertise from the UNC community to generate knowledge, prepare business leaders, and to catalyze important collaborations around the business of health.

Vision

To be the leading academic destination and trusted voice at the intersection of business and health; to use our interdisciplinary community resources to improve health and well-being in the state of North Carolina and beyond.

Values

Our interdisciplinary approach and diverse partnerships enable the CBOH to make significant impacts within higher education, the healthcare industry, and ultimately in the lives of individuals and communities. In order to do this work in an authentic way, we are guided by the following values:

  • Excellence – Our work is informed by academic rigor and expertise. We believe that the knowledge we share, the leaders we train, and collaborations we foster should strive to achieve greatness.
  • Community – The greatest challenges in healthcare will not be solved by any single view or lens. We believe we must leverage the collective knowledge and resources of our unique community and partners to positively impact healthcare locally and globally.
  • Teamwork – Healthcare is inherently interdisciplinary. We believe in training individuals to work with peers across the healthcare ecosystem in order to establish a more connected and effective system.
  • Equity – Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life. We believe that our research, programming, and instruction should promote and encourage the conditions, structures, and ideas that will help make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and higher quality for all.
  • Innovation – Incrementalism and rapid progress are not mutually exclusive in healthcare. We believe that improving practices and outcomes in the healthcare industry requires an openness to innovative approaches, ideas, and paradigms, and also a commitment to long-term improvement.

“Since the official launch of the Center for the Business of Health in 2018, we’ve built a dynamic community of faculty, staff, alumni, students, and partners all across the healthcare industry that is second to none.”

- Bradley Staats, CBOH Faculty Director; Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Academics at UNC Kenan-Flagler
